I was disinterested in the plot due to how they just went straight into the story, I didn't know any of the characters or did I care what they were doing. The ending of this episode got me interested tho, where does he go from here? How can he live with himself?

That is one very sad and awful event that infected him in more ways than one. Losing both people is very harsh. I hope he find a way to atone in another way and set a goal in life so that this won't happened again.
